What belongs in the house manual
The house manual should be direct and easy to scan. Guests usually open it when they are trying to do something: turn on heat, find the WiFi, dispose of rubbish, use the coffee machine, or check out properly.
- WiFi network, password, and router location.
- Heating, cooling, fireplace, fan, and thermostat instructions.
- Kitchen appliances, coffee machine, dishwasher, washer, dryer, and any quirks.
- Bins, recycling, collection days, and where rubbish should go.
- Parking, gates, access codes, and quiet hours.
- Checkout steps: dishes, keys, towels, windows, heating, bins, and timing.
Write it like a host, not a warning sign
Rules matter, but tone matters too. "Please keep noise low after 10pm; sound carries to our neighbours" is better than "No noise after 10pm." The best house manuals prevent problems without making the guest feel policed.
Why digital helps
A digital manual can be updated the moment a code changes. It can also link to appliance manuals, maps, restaurants, taxis, emergency contacts, and checkout reminders.
